Rachel Suzanne

Rachel Suzanne entered this world on Saturday, December 19, 2009 at 1:09 p.m. She weighed 6 pounds, 8 ounces and was 19.5 inches long.

She was named after her Grandma Suzanne Treat and was born on her Grandpa Fred Stroschein's birthday.

She spent her first night in the nursery due to my exhausting labor and delivery and this may have been a good thing because the nurse noticed she spit up some green stuff. That green stuff could have been anything - fluid, infection, obstructed bowel. But around 4:30 am the NICU doctor and nurses came to our door to let us know Rachel was going to the NICU to have her stomach cleaned out, and an xray was taken. Everything came back normal and we were able to have her in our arms again around 10 am on Sunday. Just in time for the visitors that were waiting to see her.

Otherwise she seems to be very happy and healthy. So far she and mom and dad and Rockwell are all adjusting to their new lifestyle. Rockwell is progressing pretty well, and we're working very hard on how he is reacting to a new baby. My husband has been a rock. One night in the hospital he got up with her every time. I was in lots of pain and very sore from the c-section and getting out of bed was the hardest part. At home he's been even better. Taking her for most of the time after she eats and letting me nap because I'm the one to get up at all hours of the night to feed her.

Due to my inability to sit still, even though I was cut open and stapled shut with 18 staples, My husband and I put Rachel in the nursery one afternoon and went downstairs to the gift shop and enjoyed a cup of hot cocoa while in the hospital.

She visited the pediatrician on Thursday, and has gained 4 ounces since she was discharged at the hospital. (She weighed 5 pounds, 15 ounches and now weighs 6 pounds, 3 ounces). When we stripped her naked to get her weight, she pooped on the paper covering on the table in the room and then she peed on the scale when we put her on to weigh her. It was very comical.

That same night, Christmas Eve, we gave her a manicure, and a bath. She didn't enjoy the bath too much and slept through the manicure (nail filing)
